In Lesson Five, the ‘oo’ vowel sound is introduced. In the second slideshow, along with the new color/sound, previous lessons are reviewed.
Show the slideshow first with sound and then without it, letting students say the words themselves. Once they have completed the written exercises in this lesson, it is recommended that the cards here be combined with previous cards to play Go Fish or used as flash cards. Playing Go Fish can be expanded to teach conversational patterns, especially for ESL learners.
For example, an initial pattern would be: “Do you have ‘goat’?” “Yes, I do. Here you are.” Or, “No, I don’t. Go fish.” After they can do this easily, then change to a pattern such as, “Is there a ‘goat’ in your hand?” “Yes, there is.” “Can I have it?” “Of course, here you are.” Or, “No, there isn’t. Go fish.” In successive lessons, this pattern can be changed in many ways to practice conversational English.
